In the 1990s, following his book The Search for the Grail, Graham Phillips gained global attention by claiming he had discovered the Holy Grail. He linked the Arthurian “White Castle” to Whittington Castle, uncovering evidence that the medieval Fitz Warin family believed they possessed the relic. Rather than a chalice from the Last Supper, Phillips argued the Grail was a small alabaster jar associated with Mary Magdalene, said to have collected Christ’s blood during the Crucifixion and hold healing powers. Tracing clues across Shropshire, he found the object, later identified by the British Museum as a first-century jar from Jerusalem - precisely the time and place associated with the Holy Grail.
